Landscape Intelligence
The School of Landscape Architecture at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is focused on giving students the highly synthetic design abilities necessary to engage the complex socio-ecological landscapes of the 21st Century. Our students engage in a rigorous course of disciplinary and interdisciplinary training to explore and master skills and learn and develop knowledge with imagination and intelligence. You'll learn to engage today’s wicked problems--from strategic and infrastructural planning of landscape resources at the scale of the Tennessee River to detailed design investigations of brownfields, parks, and yet unclassified landscape territories that continuously emerge as a result of larger socio-economic and -ecologic forces.
pedagogy
Our curriculum provides students with the design, digital communication, and critical-thinking skills necessary for collaborative leadership on the multidisciplinary, multifunctional, multiscalar landscape projects that will define the future of the built environment. The design studio is at the core of our pedagogy. Across six semesters of studio or an optional final thesis, students are instructed in a wide range of approaches to design and design thinking.
TECHNOLOGY
Students have access to advanced fabrication technologies and a wood shop at the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design's Fabrication Lab in Knoxville's downtown district.  In addition to the fab lab, students are able to access a wood shop within the art and architecture building.  Studio spaces were renovated in 2015 and each student has their own big screen monitor, and large collaborative work tables.
CAREERS
Our students pursue careers nationally and internationally in which their wide range of creative and communicative skills are in demand. We have an ever-increasing footprint in the United States and are constantly working to forge new connections with firms looking for future leaders in the field. More information about career trajectories of our graduates can be found here.
