Abbey Freed is originally from Wenatchee, Washington and graduated in May, 2024.
1. What is your undergraduate degree in?
I received a BFA in studio art with a dual concentration in sculpture and drawing.
2. Did you partake in any internships during your time in the MLA program? If so, where?
Yes, I interned at SurfaceDesign in San Francisco this past winter and have also been interning with the Tennessee Riverline since June. Both have been amazing learning experiences.
3. What aspect of the school has had the most impact on you?
I think the way UTK prioritizes pushing the envelope in software and representation skills has strongly impacted my design thinking and approach to ideating through multiple means of production.
4. What advice would you give to incoming students?
Stay open to ideas that challenge you, be rigorous in your work, and take care of yourself.
