1. What is your undergraduate degree in?
My undergraduate degree is in Humanities. Prior to that I studied forestry and landscape design.
2. Did you partake in any internships during your time in the MLA program? If so, where?
Yes, I have been very fortunate with my internships. My first summer, I went to the Tennessee RiverLine. The second summer, I went to Landworks Studio Inc., and this past winter, I did an externship with SCAPE . They were all amazing experiences and fulfilled different interests I have within the field.
3. What aspect of the school has had the most impact on you?
There’s a lot. UTK really takes into account your personal interests, and the faculty find ways to push you in whatever endeavors you choose to pursue.
4. What advice would you give to incoming students?
Keep an eye on what’s going on in the field and explore which aspects of it personally excite you. It is a broad discipline, and if you don’t take personal time to explore all it has to offer, you might be missing out. Oh, and bring a sweater to the studio; somehow it is often cold in the building.
